Early Literacy
Children begin to learn to read and write long before they can actually read a book or write their name. This is called Emergent Literacy. Your Northumberland Early Literacy Consultant, Sasha Korper, is available to support the development of those all important literacy skills. As Chair of the Northumberland Literacy Committee, she coordinates the Great Literacy Race for children in Kindergarten to grade 6.
The Committee also offers support to parents of pre-school children with the Kindergarten Readiness brochure,
the Road to Kindergarten event at the Northumberland Mall,
and a variety of programs offered throughout the year.
